Gábor Wéber, former Zengő Dension Team driver and champion of the 2010 SEAT Leon EuroCup will continue his career this season in the German SEAT Leon Supercopa. Wéber eyes WTCC return in 2012 after setting his sights on the 2011 SEAT championship title.
The 2011 season of the German SEAT Leon Supercopa is about to kick off this weekend with a Hungarian driver in the field none other than Gábor Wéber, champion of the 2010 SEAT Leon EuroCup. Wéber says his exit from Zengő Dension Team that he has raced for since 2002 will take “for a while” indicating that one day he might return but rated the situation as another challenge.
“It wasn’t an easy decision because following my SEAT Leon EuroCup championship title, my primary goal was the WTCC without any question but because of this year’s rule changes, it would have been difficult to find a competitive drive if the money would had been there, said Wéber in his culomn in Hungarian.
“So I had to settle for plan B and find a championship that features challenging circuits, big attendance and runs in an important market in terms of moving ahead.”
Wéber has chosen the German series where the well known SEAT Leon Supercopa cars are being raced. The Hungarian will drive the #27 car for Team LogiPlus by T. A. C. Race Solution on famous circuits including the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Hockenheim or Zeltweg.“I’ve already done the first test, I met with the team members and fortunately everything is going according the plans, we’ve topped the timesheet even with worn tyres. “
The championship begins this weekend in Hockenheim.
