Zengő Dension Team is going to compete in the 2010 FIA World Touring Car Championship. The outfit has evolved from the Hungarian national championship during the last three years to become a front-runner operation in the SEAT Leon EuroCup but this year they’re about to take the final step to enter one of the highest levels of touring car racing.
György Juni, the team manager of the newly-formed Zengő Dension Team said that their entry to the FIA World Touring Car Championship show the significant efforts made by the personnel close to the operation.
“This news would have been borned hardly without the help of our many friends, sport mates but it would have been impossible without Zoltán Zengő’s stamina. Everybody should be proud that I can write it down. In such a historic moment of the Hungarian motorsport, I must admit: we’ve matured,” wrote György Juni in a culomn published on zengodensionteam.com, our Hungarian sister-site.
Zengő Dension Team’s long-standing team manager said that they have been in negotiations with SEAT Sport about a possible move to the WTCC for a reasonably long time but it was seemed hard to believe even for the involved parties.
“Let’s be honest: if I had said that we knew in last September that Norbert (Michelisz) might get a TDI, would have you believed what I said? Or that we are on the phone and email on a daily basis with those famous top drivers from the television who were then pushing towards the end of the season?” asked.
Juni admitted that the world has changed quite a lot since then by the numerous proposals from drivers to join the Zengő Dension Team.
“One thing is for sure: we’ve become a factor. There are only eight cars like this. The championship was won by this type of car. Six will be running, two among them will be at us. Let’s accept it: this is not a bad start.”
The team manager emphasized the importance of the cooperation with the team’s main sponsor Dension Ltd. that resulted last year’s triumph in the SEAT Leon EuroCup. In 2010 the aim is to be successful again.
“Don’t take it as mandatory sliminess but our title sponsor Dension Ltd. has been a great instrumentality. At the very first moment they realized where we are heading and they choose us despite the many great offers from the field of the top guys. They would like the same as us. This is not possible that successes can’t be reached by cooperation with domestic or even European kind of approach. We have already got a SEAT (Leon) EuroCup championship title together. We know what the taste of victory is like; this is what we are pushing for among the big names. Cheer for us!”
