Norbert Michelisz posted the 2nd fastest time on his debut in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo on the Hungaroring which means his partner Giorgio Sanna will start Race 1 before Michelisz will take over the drive. The Hungarian racer says they have good chances to shine.
Very limited tracktime was available for the drivers and teams on the Hungaroring before Race 1 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo on Saturday, as the field had only a 40 minutes long practice session and a 30 minutes qualifying to adapt the circumstances.
These sessions were even more important for the Hungarian drivers racing for Automobili Lamborghini this weekend. Zengő-Dension Team's WTCC driver Norbert Michelisz and Schubert Motorsport's FIA GT3 pilot Csaba Walter were invited by the Italian marque to try out the fastest one-make series in the world.
It was decided before the practices that chief factory test driver Giorgio Sanna will start the practice to get more comfortable with the track and define the basic setup but an early red flag changed the plans and forced Sanna to do only one timed lap after the break before Michelisz took over the car.
The Hungarian driver immediately posted the fastest sector time in the middle of the circuit and improved Sanna's laptime right at his first attempt which earned admiration for him among the engineers.

Qualifying was Michelisz's job
Michelisz's great performance led to a strategy that allowed him to begin the qualification on fresh tyres. This is a crucial decision as the Pirelli tyres are losing performance rapidly and the first few laps are providing the only real chances to exploit the full potential of the tyres.
On the top of that the regulations are stating that the pairs are forced to start Race 1 with the tyres remaining from the qualifying on which it is forbidden to use remaining tyres from the free practice. Therefore it was up to Michelisz to perform a laptime that place them on the grid.
The Hungarian driver didn't let his team down, he needed only two laps to claim 1:51.592 and get the temporary first position before his time was improved by Mirko Venturi with his 1:50.878. When Sanna and the engineers saw Michelisz's time they called the Hungarian driver back immediately as the team was very satisfied with the performance and they opted to save the tyres for the race.
According to the regulations the slower driver of the pair on the qualifying will start Race 1 which is now Giorgio Sanna who didn't set a time on qualifying. They think this is an ideal scenario as Sanna has got more experience in this field and have better chances to do a clean start and hand over the car for Michelisz at the beginning of the 2nd half of the race.
Race 1 will begin at 15:30 with a rolling start with two Hungarian drivers on each end of the grid. Unfortunately Csaba Walter, driver of the #2 car was forced to skip the entire day as a result of an electrical failure of the Lamborghini. Their mechanics are working hard to solve the issue in time for Race 1. The other major contender is trouble is Czech driver Thomas Enge whose car caused the red flag on Free Practice.
