The crash on Race 1 compromised the entire second outing for Norbert Michelisz as he had no realistic chance to get through the midfield following his start from 20th on the grid. Regardless of the unsuccessful Sunday he is celebrated in the paddock by fans coming to Brno.
At the moment Norbert Michelisz parked his damaged car in the gravel trap on Race 1 it was obvious that a miracle is needed to reach something that can be considered as a good result in Brno.
From a specific point of view the team managed to get a fantastic result thanks to their miraculous work that they did on Michelisz's damaged car in such a limited time before the starting procedure began for Race 2.
Everybody was doing their best in order to get the car done in time for the deadline even after Michelisz's car was cleared to run but was dismantled again following strange noises coming out from the suspension.
Eventually the work was done and the mechanics truly deserved the applause they received from team principal Zoltán Zengő and the many fans waiting for whether their hero can go out to try to restore something that was taken from him by the accident on Race 1.
Michelisz did an outstanding start from 20th on the grid and made up no less than 5 position to move up to 15th before he was hit again and fell back to 19th. At the end of Lap 1 Colin Turkington was leading ahead Andy Priaulx, Gabriele Tarquini, Alain Menu, Robert Huff, Augusto Farfus, Darryl O'Young, Fredy Barth and Stefano D'Aste.
Still working on the grid ahead Race 2
From 19th it was looking tough to get through the field but Michelisz started to move up and passed Harry Vaulkhard and Mehdi Bennani which meant he took 17th and later made profit of various racing incidents happening ahead of him.
The problem was that he arrived behind Yvan Muller and Jordi Gené while they were on more or less the same pace as Michelisz which meant the end of the road for the young Hungarian driver as he was unable to launch any attack to get past Gené.
Unchanged conditions characterized pretty much of the race with several laps passing without any major moves but two laps before the end of the race sudden movements happened which resulted Mehdi Bennani taking out Kristian Poulsen from just behind Michelisz.
Almost in the same time Gabriele Tarquini retired due an engine failure and Farfus made a move to pass Alain Menu but the Swiss driver could regain his position and finish the race ahead the Brazilian.
On the top nothing changed for the majority of the race which ended with Andy Priaulx taking the 50th victory for BMW ahead Colin Turkington and Alain Menu. Race 1 winner Robert Huff finished 4th while Augusto Farfus took 5th. Tiago Monteiro finished 6th, Darryl O'Young and Fredy Barth also scored points.
Race day in Brno turned out to be disastrous in terms of results and the overall point standings but it was more important that the Hungarian driver wasn't allowed to extract the full potential of the package due the unfortunate incident on Race 1.
When returned into the pits Michelisz was applauded for minutes regardless of the outcome of the race. He was visibly grateful for the support he got over the course of the weekend and along with team principal Zoltán Zengő he asked the fans to come to Oschersleben next month.
Cheering friends and fans vowed to be there. See you in Germany in a month time. Or maybe sooner.
