Race of the Czech Republic continued with Free Practice 2 of the WTCC which saw Norbert Michelisz taking the 11th place before the session was red flagged 2 minutes before its end. Colin Turkington was fastest but Muller and Tarquini are the men who should be watched.
Preparations for the qualifying session of the 2010 FIA WTCC Race of the Czech Republic are getting finished as the field has completed both free practices that are available for the drivers to get comfortable in their car on the Automotodrom Brno.
Free practice 2 was quite a straightforward session. Apart from a few off track excursions by Proteam drivers everybody was able to do their own program as the 5.403 meters long circuit offers a big space for the drivers. Traffic certainly shouldn't be an issue here.
Despite the lengthy circuit the times are very close to each other. The top 11 drivers are within 1.6 seconds but it is more important that 3rd placed Gabriele Tarquini is within 0.6 seconds to 11th placed Norbert Michelisz.
WSR's Colin Turkington was fastest on Free Practice 2 with a spectacular 2:11.028. Turkington made sure to get the top spot as he was fastest in every sectors and finished 0.461 seconds ahead of Yvan Muller. Turkington clearly went for the laptime unlike the majority of the field.
2nd placed Yvan Muller is certainly one of the drivers who should be watched this weekend also, as the championship leader is on the pace in Brno as well. Gabriele Tarquini, the only driver who could win here with a SEAT Leon TDI in recent years was third but his 2:12.029 was more than a second slower than Turkington's hot lap.
Starting from Tarquini the field is very tight which is a very good prospect for the qualification session that should be an intense battle for advancing into the Q2. This might be a good and a bad news for Norbert Michelisz as well because the Hungarian driver finished 11th which would not be enough to get into the Q2 but qualification always brings a different situation compared to the free practices.
Only 0.1 second improvement would have been needed for Norbert Michelisz to take 8th on the timesheets but the times are not to be taken so seriously this time again. Most of the field are holding back their resources for the qualification.
A few off track slides and spinnings were parts of the session, the only notable incident was Tiago Monteiro's mistake that made him to end up in the gravel two minutes before the end of the session.
Monteiro's SEAT carried a big amount of gravel onto the circuit, the session was stopped with a red flag and it didn't get restarted which meant that the results were frozen a few minutes before the end of the session.
