Race day in Brno has started for Zengő-Dension Team's WTCC operation with the 15 minutes long warm up session. This was the last chance for the drivers to hit the track before the most important events of the weekend; the races on the afternoon.
Just like the weather today, the weekend has been bright and sunny for the first and only Hungarian WTCC team as Norbert Michelisz has been successful on the free practices which should be encouraging but the whole outfit thought that the times are not representing the actual pecking order which meant that everybody was surprised and very happy for Michelisz after he took 6th on the grid.
Especially since Michelisz was the 2nd fastest SEAT and managed to outqualify three times world champion Andy Priaulx who was anticipated as one of the favorites for a victory this weekend. Priaulx success is highly unlikely on Race 1 as he starts from 11th on the grid but the British driver might have a shot on Race 2.
Priaulx struck back on the warm up session on Sunday morning as he topped the timesheet with a 2:11.307 that he posted when Norbert Michelisz took his 9th place with a 2:12.488. The Hungarian driver was initially on P12 but with a bit more than 5 minutes to go he could improve and put himself into the top 10.
Times are not necessarily the most important factors on this session as in this stage of the weekend the most of the drivers are focusing on longer runs to try to simulate the race environment which means that the circumstances are not fitting very well for posting the best possible sector times, consistency is more important.
Therefore we shouldn't get surprised by Gabriele Tarquini's 13th place but it is worth to keep our eyes on pace setter Andy Priaulx who is sure to try to get into the top 8 in order to start from pole on Race 2.
6th place yesterday was a great achievement by Michelisz but the competition is tough which means it will be very hard to keep the point scoring positions but the Hungarian driver seems to be boosted by the support he receives from the fans here in Brno.
Yesterday's sessions were already attended by numerous friends and fans from home but a larger community is anticipated for the races starting from noon today. Brno already feels like home and we all hope that the results will also fit for the trust the fans have given to Norbert and to the team.
All set for three great races in a row including Zengő-Dension Team's participation in Race 2 of the SEAT Leon EuroCup to be followed by the main events of the weekend; Race 1 and 2 of the 2010 WTCC Race of the Czech Republic.
