Zengő-Dension Team's Gábor Wéber took victory on Race 1 of the SEAT Leon EuroCup weekend in Germany. Wéber was leading from start to finish after managing to avoid a dangerous situation. Rossi took 2nd, da Costa finished 3rd, Larini is on pole tomorrow with 8th today.
There are races that are decided in the first lap, in the first corner, sometimes even before the race starts, when the drivers earn their grid positions. Race 1 of the SEAT Leon EuroCup in Oschersleben was like this thanks to the balanced performance shown by Gábor Wéber and Michael Rossi.
It was obvious already before the start of the race that the first lap will be crucial for Gábor Wéber as the Hungarian driver begun the race from pole but Frenchman Michael Rossi took 2nd by only a small margin which made it sure that their battle would be tight over the entire race distance.
As a result of this, both drivers were eager to make sure that he will be at the front when they approach Turn 1. Rossi made a better start but Wéber secured the inside line and was in a better position to take Turn 1 but Alexey Dudukalo's car suddenly appeared from the left side and Wéber quickly found himself in a trap between the Russian and the French driver.
The situation was quite similar to what Norbert Michelisz was a part of in Brno only the scenario was more fortunate. Dudukalo's speed made it obvious that he missed the brake point ahead Turn 1 but Wéber was still able to avoid him. The price for this was to push the back of Rossi's car which made his opponent to lose the momentum and fall a bit backwards.
Wéber conserved the lead by managing to avoid Dudukalo and keeping Rossi behind who remained close to the Hungarian driver. He followed Wéber through the entire race distance, the gap was always around 1.5 seconds. Wéber took victory and now leading the championship by having more race wins this year than Rossi who has also collected 42 points so far.

It couldn't be much better for the team
Race 1 brought a very fortunate scenario as Duarte Félix da Costa brought his car home on 3rd place behind Rossi. The Portuguese driver managed to gain a position at the start and later he passed Stian Paulsen in Turn 1 by a very clean move. Da Costa converted his provision into reality by taking a podium finish as he predicted that his car is good enough to get this.
To make this race an even more successful one, Andrea Larini managed to take 8th in a very tight battle against Pepe Oriola and scored a point but more importantly he will be on pole tomorrow at the standing start when Gábor Wéber will be back on P8 and Duarte Félix da Costa will be on P6.
Da Costa previously vowed to support Wéber's title ambition for his own will and Larini's presence on the pole is also a promising aspect for Race 2 but as we have seen this year, nothing can be taken for granted.
Wéber considered a possible victory on Race 1 as a must have in his campaign for the championship. Now this goal is reached but there are still 50 km to go before the weekend is over for the team. The majority will be decided tomorrow but so far it couldn't look much better.
