Fog hits Oschersleben on Sunday morning

Massive fog caught Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on Sunday morning and took effect on the warm up before the 2010 FIA WTCC Race of Germany. Norbert Michelisz continued to be a frontrunner and finished 6th on the session. The Hungarian driver is hopeful for the afternoon.

Race days in the WTCC are always beginning with a 15 minutes warm up session early in the morning on Sunday. It is not unusual that these sessions pass without major developments in terms of power relations but warm ups are certainly good opportunities to refine the setups before the races over the afternoon.

However there are sessions that prove to be unique and the one on Sunday morning in Oschersleben is certainly a special one as massive fog hit the circuit following the night before the final day of the weekend and made the life of the drivers even more difficult.

Weather has been a key part of the weekend and with the fog it is getting even more complicated. Several personnel said in the paddock that they were actually expecting the session to be postponed as Turn 1 wasn't even visible from the media centre which is located right beside the starting lights.

Despite all the arguments the session took place and saw Robert Huff taking the top spot with a 1:36.156. The British driver is a very strong contender this weekend and expected to play an important role on the races later today.

It was a successful session for Chevrolet as Huff was followed by Alain Menu (1:36.302) and Yvan Muller (1:36.394). Reigning world champion Gabriele Tarquini took 4th with his rebuilt SEAT Leon TDI ahead Andy Priaulx's BMW that stopped beside the circuit towards the end of the session.

Norbert Michelisz continued to be close to the frontrunners as Zengő-Dension Team's driver did a 1:36.528 and took 6th on the timesheets. Michelisz was relaxed but unimpressed by the weather conditions and admitted that he can't remember for any occasion when he was driving in such a bad weather.

Apart from this the Hungarian driver was satisfied especially after seeing that he was 2nd fastest in Sector 1. He stated that he didn't have any single lap that he considered optimal but it seems this weekend the pace is there.

Michelisz will start Race 1 from 15th on the grid after he took 5th yesterday on qualifying but he needs to cope with a 10 place grid penalty carried over from Brno. He stated that he will apply an aggressive strategy in a bid to recover and take 8th by the end of Race 1.

Moving up will be a gamble as there is a high chance of getting involved into some kind of incidents but the task is not impossible. Last year BMW's Andy Priaulx won the race after starting from 14th on the grid.

Race 1 will begin at 13:05 and will last for 14 laps. Everybody is curious for the weather and while we still have a few hours to go it doesn't seem to improve yet.
